Commissioner Comer commends Weisenberger Mill for nearly 150 years as a family business

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Agriculture Commissioner James Comer toured Weisenberger Mill near Midway on Friday and afterward praised the family-owned Kentucky Proud business for its entrepreneurial spirit.

“Weisenberger Mill is a true example of the American dream,” Commissioner Comer said. “It’s been operating at the same location and under the same family name since Mr. August Weisenberger bought the mill in 1865. Today, the sixth generation of Weisenbergers is helping run the family business.”

Mac Weisenberger owns and operates the mill, and his son Phil represents the sixth generation at the southern Scott County business.

The mill operates on twin turbines powered by the South Elkhorn Creek. In its early years, Weisenberger Mill primarily produced soft wheat flour and white cornmeal. Today, the business offers more than 70 products in various sizes from corn muffins to pizza crust mix.

“Weisenberger Mill grinds its products the old-fashioned way,” Commissioner Comer pointed out. “At the same time, it has adapted to the changing needs and demands of its customers. Where many other businesses have come and gone, Weisenberger Mill has survived and thrived. They are a great example for other small Kentucky Proud businesses to follow.”
