Quarles Calls for Posters, Essays, Digital Images for 2018 Poster and Essay Contest
Students Invited to Submit Entries on 'Kentucky Agriculture: From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate'
FRANKFORT (November 27, 2017) — Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles invites Kentucky students to show in words and pictures how food gets “From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate” in the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s (KDA’s) annual Poster and Essay Contest.
“The food system is a complex network of farmers, processors, distributors, retailers, restaurants, and many others who have a hand in the production of the foods we enjoy,” Commissioner Quarles said. “This year’s Poster and Essay Contest will enable students to explore this network and learn where their food comes from. I hope all Kentucky teachers will encourage their students to participate.”
The Poster and Essay Contest is open to all Kentucky students in grades K-12. Students may submit a poster, an essay, or a digital image about the theme. Poster and essay winners will be chosen in each grade; one statewide digital winner will be selected for all grades.
Entries must be submitted to the KDA and postmarked no later than April 2, 2018. Winners will be notified on May 4. Each winner will receive a $100 award from Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom (KyAEC) and will be recognized at the 2018 Poster and Essay Contest Awards Ceremony later in the year.
