LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) invites farmers and other people who have answered a NASS survey to participate in a social media chat Friday at 1 p.m. EDT at #StatChat on Twitter.

“I encourage Kentucky producers to gather on Twitter Friday afternoon, voice their opinions, and ask questions,” Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles said. “Legislators and regulators use the statistics gathered by NASS to create policy and appropriate funds, so it’s important for farmers to be heard and be counted.”

To pose a question, include the NASS Twitter handle @usda_nass and the hashtag #StatChat in the tweet. A NASS survey methodologist and administrator branch chief will try to answer as many questions as possible as quickly as they can.

“This is producers’ opportunities to ask questions, praise, criticize, and otherwise bring their viewpoints about answering surveys,” Lisa M. Ferguson, public affairs specialist for the NASS Eastern Mountain Regional Field Office in Louisville, wrote in an email. “We want to hear from them!”

The Eastern Mountain office serves Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
