Comer to host town hall meeting in Hazard

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Agriculture Commissioner James Comer will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 8 a.m. EST at the Perry County Extension office, 933 Perry Park Road, Hazard.

“I think it’s important to get away from Frankfort and meet the citizens of Kentucky where they live,” Commissioner Comer said. “I hope everyone will take the time to drop by and tell me about an issue that’s on their minds, seek advice about an agriculture-related problem, or just say hello.”

Commissioner Comer assumed office in January 2012 after 12 years as a state representative from Monroe County. As agriculture commissioner, he leads an agency that employs 250 employees who help Kentucky farmers and food producers market their products, protect Kentucky’s livestock from disease, and provide a wide variety of consumer and environmental services.

In less than two years in office, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer has cleaned up the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, led the charge to restore industrial hemp production to Kentucky, and expanded the department’s efforts to promote local foods. This year, Comer has launched Kentucky Proud Jobs for Vets, Homegrown by Heroes, Udderly Kentucky, Farm to Campus, and the Farm to School Junior Chef Tournament. Comer closed the department’s failed motor fuel lab, auctioned off the lab’s equipment, and returned the original $1.65 million earmark for construction of the lab back to Kentucky taxpayers.
