17th Annual Poster and Essay Contest announced

 

'Kentucky Farmers Feed the Hungry' is topic of KDA contest

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles invites Kentucky students to create and submit original works to show agriculture’s role in addressing the nation’s hunger problem in the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s (KDA’s) and Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom Inc.’s 17th annual Poster and Essay Contest.

“One in six Kentuckians – including one in five school children – suffer from food insecurity,” Commissioner Quarles said. “It’s a problem in every community in Kentucky. I look forward to seeing how our students address this important topic creatively through art and writing pieces.”

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade may produce a poster, an essay, or a digital image on the theme “Kentucky Farmers Feed the Hungry.” Statewide poster and essay winners from each grade will be chosen, and an overall digital winner will be selected. Each statewide grade winner and the digital art winner will receive a $100 award and will be recognized at an awards ceremony later in 2017.

Entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 7 and mailed to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, 111 Corporate Drive, Frankfort, KY 40601. A completed entry form must be taped or glued to the back of each entry. A completed teacher form must accompany all posters and essays from the teacher’s class. Winners will be notified by May 1.
