Tree seedlings for sale from Kentucky Division of Forestry

Special to Kentucky Agricultural News

FRANKFORT, Ky. - At this time of year, the Kentucky Division of Forestry’s two tree nurseries are busy packing and shipping seedlings.

The busiest months for the spring planting season are March and April. The division doesn’t send seedlings after April because it gets too warm and the bare root seedlings do not survive well after they have leafed out for the summer.

Low-cost seedlings and technical assistance are provided to Kentucky landowners who are ready to answer the inherent call to plant a small grove or reforest a whole field. You can purchase single trees for $5 each, a bundle of 10 trees for $30, and for bigger planting jobs, there are bundles of 100 trees for $50. The price for the single and 10-packs includes tax and delivery.

Foresters from the Kentucky Division of Forestry are available to help match the right tree species to your situation. To order your trees or request assistance, call or stop by a regional Kentucky Division of Forestry office. To find what office covers your county, go to the KDF website, http://forestry.ky.gov, or call 1-800-866-0555.

To get the best selection, place your order as soon as possible and to give your seedlings the best chance of survival, plant your trees by the end of April.
