Hinton Appointed to Agricultural Development Board
Governor's Office of Agricultural Policy
FRANKFORT (April 15, 2019) — Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed Matthew Hinton, of Flemingsburg, to the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board (KADB), representing the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the board,” Hinton said. “I am part of the fourth generation in a family business that just celebrated our centennial. Our driving principle is that in order for us to make it another 100 years, we must focus on making our customers profitable. I plan to carry that same principle with me into every meeting. We must focus on the profitability of agriculture in Kentucky.”
Hinton and his wife Karina along with their children, Wyatt (8) and Shelby (5), live in Flemingsburg. He is Vice President for Hinton Mills. Hinton also serves as President of the Fleming County Chamber of Commerce, serves as a Director on the Fleming County Extension Board, and is the Committee Chair for the Flemingsburg Cub Scouts.
Hinton’s appointment is effective through July 6, 2019.
The KADB is chaired by Gov. Bevin and consists of five statutory members or their designees and 11 appointed members. Statutory members include the Governor, Commissioner of Agriculture, Economic Development Cabinet Secretary, Director of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and the president of Kentucky State University.
Appointed members are geographically distributed throughout the Commonwealth and are subject to confirmation by the Senate. Seven of the appointments represent active farmers of which at least four are from substantially tobacco-impacted counties and two have experience in agricultural diversification; the remaining four appointments represent the Kentucky Farm Bureau, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, an attorney with farm experience and an agricultural lender.
