Alfalfa hay, mixed hay, beef cattle, tobacco
Victoria farms is a small family farm that is just getting off and running. The owner is Dr. Yancey Holmes who is an endocrinologist that practices in Maysville, KY. Growing up in rural Kentucky, Dr. Holmes was familiar with farming but had never lived on an operating farm. It was his dream to rear his children and live on a farm away from the city where he had spent the last twenty years. He and his wife purchased farmland near Maysville in 2004 shortly after moving his medical practice there. At the time the land was more recognizable as a jungle than a farm. It was scattered with junk cars and dilapitated old buildings. The fields were briar patches and completely neglected. When not seeing patients, mostly on weekends and in evenings, Dr. Holmes and his wife bush-hogged, cleared rocks, cut trees, plowed, cultivated and planted alfalfa hoping to someday turn this place into something to be proud of.
Now that things are growing, Victoria Farms has Chuck Simmons as manager full time to help make Dr. Holmes' dream of a traditional family farm come true. Currently we are producing quality alfalfa hay and mixed hay. We are also tobacco growers and have a small beef operation. We are always trying to improve our farm and expand operations into sustainable agriculture and prevent yet another farm from becoming a sub-division.
From Lexington take Hwy 68 towards Maysville. About 3/4 mile after passing May's Lick Mill on your right turn right on Clift Pike. We are located about 2 miles down the road on your left. You will see a yellow sided house and garage there.
If you are starting from somewhere north of Lexington or out of state it is probably best to take the AA Hwy (Hwy 9) to Maysville then take Hwy 68 towards Lexington. Clift Pike will be on your left about 8 miles from the AA Hwy. If you get to May's Lick Mill you have gone too far and need to turn around. Call our main number if you need further help. Thanks.
